HAÏTI ET LA FRANCE – (English version further below) –

Le mercredi 17 février 2010, pour la première fois depuis 1804, un président français s’est rendu en Haïti pour une brève visite de moins de 5 heures. Quoiqu’historique, cette visite s’est passée quasi dans l’indifférence de l’Haïtien moyen plus préoccupé par ses difficultés quotidiennes suite au séisme. Toutefois, il est remarquable que ce fût ce président français –Nicolas Sarkozy– qui mit en garde les puissants voisins d’Haïti, en déclarant dans son discours, lors de cette visite : «Haïti pour les Haïtiens.» Remarquables aussi ses propos du Français Régis Debray pour décrire les relations entre Haïti et la France, tirés de son rapport en 2004 – Haïti et la France : Rapport à Dominique de Villepin, ministre des Affaires étrangères.

--Combien de Français savent que la Déclaration des Droits de l’Homme et du Citoyen fut initiée à Paris mais accomplie à Saint-Domingue, où les droits de l’homme blanc devinrent, presque à notre insu, universels pour de bon ? ... Combien savent encore que c’est la délégation haïtienne à la Conférence de San Francisco en 1945 qui, entraînant les votes latino-américains, et contre l’hostilité anglo-saxonne, a imposé le français comme deuxième langue de travail des Nations Unies (« La France vous doit une reconnaissance éternelle », lança alors Georges Bidault, président de la délégation française, au Ministre haïtien, « vous serez fait grand officier de la Légion d’honneur », laquelle, bien sûr, se perdit en route) ?--

Enfin reconnue, Haïti enfin existe. Enfin Haïti vient de naître. Oh, que la gestation fut longue et l’accouchement douloureux ! Maintenant, comme le dit le président haïtien, René Préval : « Le pays n'est pas à reconstruire, il est à construire, il est à refonder. Il faut construire l'État et organiser ses institutions avec pour principale finalité le bien-être de tous les Haïtiens. » (Le Nouvelliste, 17 février 2010)

Prions que Dieu place en charge de la construction du pays des leaders capables, remplis de sagesse et d’intelligence, remplis d’amour pour Dieu et pour son peuple, à savoir des Néhémie, des Daniel, des Joseph… De sorte que l’on puisse dire d’Haïti, comme l’a fait la reine de Séba à propos de Salomon et d’Israël : « Il faut remercier le Seigneur ton Dieu qui t'a choisi pour régner sur –Israël– Haïti! C'est parce qu'il aime ce peuple pour toujours que le Seigneur t'en a fait le –roi– président et t'a chargé d'y faire respecter le droit et la justice. » (1 Rois 10:9 –BFC)

HAITI AND FRANCE

On Wednesday February 17th, 2010, for the first time since 1804, a French president went to Haiti for a brief visit of less than 5 hours. Even though this visit was historical, yet it went almost unnoticed by the average Haitian who was more preoccupied by his daily difficulties following the earthquake. However, it was remarkable that it was this French president –Nicolas Sarkozy– who warned the powerful neighbors of Haiti by stating in his speech during that visit: “Haiti to the Haitians.” Remarkable as well those words of the Frenchman Régis Debray to describe the relationship between Haiti and France, taken from his report in 2004 -- Haïti et la France : Rapport à Dominique de Villepin, ministre des Affaires étrangères (Haiti and France: Report to Dominique de Villepin, Minister of Foreign Affairs).

--How many French people know that the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen was initiated in Paris but realized in Saint-Domingue where the rights of the white man became, almost without our knowing it, universal for good? … Again, how many people know that it was the Haitian delegation at the San Francisco Conference of 1945 who, leading the Latin-American votes, and against the Anglo-Saxon hostility, imposed French at the second official and working language of the United Nations (“France owes you an eternal gratitude,” then said Georges Bidault, president of the French delegation, to the Haitian minister, “you will be made Grand Officer National Order of the Legion of Honor,” which, of course, got lost on the way)?--

Finally recognized, Haiti finally exists. Finally Haiti has been born. Oh, how the la gestation was long and the delivery painful! Now, as the Haitian president, René Préval said: “The country is not to be rebuilt, but to be built, it is to be refounded. We need to build the State and organize its institutions with the primary purpose the well-being of all Haitians.” (Le Nouvelliste, 17 February 2010)

Let us pray that God put in charge of the construction of the country capable leaders, full of wisdom and intelligence, full of love for God and for his people, i.e. Nehemiahs, Daniels, Josephs… So that one may say of Haiti, as the queen of Sheba said of Solomon and Israel: “Blessed be the LORD your God, who delighted in you, setting you on the –throne of Israel– presidency of Haiti! Because the LORD has loved –Israel– Haiti forever, therefore He made you –king– president, to do justice and righteousness.” (1 Kings 10:9 – NKJV)
