J’ai la joie et le privilège de vous annoncer que mon ouvrage Le Dictionnaire du christianisme - The Dictionary of Christian Words paraît à la fin de ce mois de novembre 2007. C’est un ouvrage sur lequel j’ai travaillé pendant plus de dix ans et pour lequel j’ai utilisé plus de 200 dictionnaires, encyclopédies, revues et livres spécialisés. Si vous avez remarqué que notre blog n’était plus mis à jour depuis mars, c’était donc parce que depuis lors j’étais très occupé à réviser et à finaliser ce projet. Entre-temps nous avons eu aussi des activités pour les hommes, à savoir des rencontres locales et régionales pour Bruxelles, Turnhout et Anvers. Cependant, le temps nous manquait pour en faire des rapports.
Le Dictionnaire du christianisme - The Dictionary of Christian Words, c’est premièrement un dictionnaire de définition de tous les termes chrétiens, avec leurs différents sens ou usages et ce, dans tous les domaines – critique biblique, histoire, théologie – et dans toutes les branches du christianisme – catholiques, orthodoxes, protestants, anglicans, évangéliques, pentecôtistes. Et c’est deuxièmement un dictionnaire bilingue français-anglais et anglais-français de toute la terminologie chrétienne. Il s’adresse non seulement aux professeurs et étudiants en théologie, mais aussi au grand public, à quiconque s’intéresse au christianisme en général. Ce n’est ni un dictionnaire biblique ni un dictionnaire de théologie avec de longs articles techniques, mais un dictionnaire de langue. Son but est d’offrir à tous un ouvrage de référence où ils peuvent vérifier le sens exact et complet de n’importe quel terme chrétien et de trouver son équivalent en anglais et vice versa.
Pour chaque mot-clé du dictionnaire sont indiqués sa catégorie grammaticale (adjectif, nom, verbe ; masculin ou féminin ; singulier ou pluriel), son étymologie dans l’alphabet original (cyrillique, grec, hébreu, latin) avec quelquefois sa translittération en caractères latins, ses différents sens selon l’époque ou les milieux chrétiens (catholiques, protestants, etc.), ses nombreux dérivés (adjectifs, noms, verbes), ses synonymes et antonymes, son équivalent anglais et ses corrélats (sujets connexes). Pour avoir une vue d’ensemble d’un sujet donné et découvrir ses différents aspects, les mots-clés sont regroupés selon leur étymologie et leur lien de sens sous une entrée principale. Ainsi les termes « chrétien », « cryptochrétien » et « post-chrétien » sont traités sous le mot-clé « chrétien ». L’utilisateur dispose également de quatre index: un index des références bibliques et un index des Noms propres mentionnés dans le corpus, puis un index français-anglais et un index anglais-français.

If you noticed that our blog has no longer been updated since March, it is because since then we were very busy revising and finalizing this project. In the meantime we also had activities for men both locally and regionally, for Brussels, Turnhout and Antwerp. However, we did not have enough time to make any report.
Le Dictionnaire du christianisme - The Dictionary of Christian Words is firstly a definition dictionary of all Christian terms in French, with their different meanings and usages, in all fields – Biblical criticism, history, theology – and in all the branches of Christianity – Catholicism, Orthodoxy, Protestantism, Anglicanism, Evangelicalism, and Pentecostalism. And secondly it is a bilingual dictionary French-English and English-French of all the Christian terminology. Its target audience is not only professors and students in theology, but also the general public, anyone interested in Christianity in general. It is neither a Bible dictionary nor a theological dictionary with long technical articles, but a language dictionary. Its purpose is to offer everyone a tool with which they can verify the exact and complete meaning of any Christian term and find its equivalent in English and vice versa.
For each keyword of the dictionary are indicated its grammatical category (adjective, noun, verb; masculine or feminine; singular or plural), its etymology in the original alphabet (Cyrillic, Greek, Hebrew, Latin) sometimes including its transliteration in Latin characters, its different meanings according to the period or the branch of Christianity (Catholic, Protestant, etc.), its numerous derivatives (adjectives, nouns, verbs), its synonyms and antonyms, its English equivalent and its related topics. To have an overview of a given subject and to discover its different aspects, the keywords are grouped according to their etymology and their link of meaning in one main entry. So the terms « chrétien », « cryptochrétien » and « post-chrétien » are treated under the keyword « chrétien ». The user also has four indexes: one index of Bible references, one index of Proper Nouns mentioned in the corpus, one French-English index and one English-French index.
If anyone wants to discover the adjectives that are derived in French from the Biblical words, to know their origin, or to find the true meaning of love, wisdom, worship, glossolalia and many other Christian concepts, then Le Dictionnaire du christianisme - The Dictionary of Christian Words is a must, the reference work that is absolutely necessary to own.
