LA STATISTIQUE ET LA FOULE
Dieu et Sa Parole
ne sont pas contre les chiffres. Pour preuve, un des livres canoniques de la
Bible s'appelle Nombres. Par contre,
Dieu a en horreur la statistique orgueilleuse. La statistique qui représente la
supériorité, la puissance arrogante de l'homme. Puisque donc vous adorez la
statistique, je vais vous envoyer une peste pour que vous l'ayez en horreur en
comptant vos victimes et vos cadavres.
Le roi David en a
fait l'amère expérience. «1 Satan se leva contre Israël, et il excita David à faire le dénombrement
d'Israël… 7 Cet
ordre déplut à Dieu, qui frappa Israël. 8 Et David dit à
Dieu: J'ai commis un grand péché en faisant cela! Maintenant, daigne pardonner
l'iniquité de ton serviteur, car j'ai complètement agi en insensé!... 14 L'Eternel
envoya la peste en Israël, et il tomba soixante-dix mille hommes d'Israël. »
(1 Chroniques 21:1, 7-8, 14)
Les célébrités,
les riches et les puissants de ce monde adorent les bains de foule pour
exprimer leur puissance et leur influence arrogante. L'Éternel met un holà à
cette démonstration d'influence et de pouvoir, en leur envoyant une chose
invisible et indescriptible qui efface leur visibilité et réduit à néant leur
pouvoir de séduction. Ce qu'il faut, ce n'est pas un bain de foule, mais un
bain de l'Esprit, une immersion dans l'Esprit Saint, ou comme le dit la Bible,
un baptême du Saint-Esprit. « Moi,
je vous baptise d'eau, pour vous amener à la repentance; mais celui qui vient
après moi est plus puissant que moi, et je ne suis pas digne de porter ses
souliers. Lui, il vous baptisera du Saint-Esprit et de feu. » (Matthieu
3:11)
Ne cherchez pas
votre identité et votre valeur au nombre de gens qui vous suivent, vous
flattent ou vous approuvent, car leur opinion est changeante selon les
circonstances, mais en Celui qui s'appelle Fidèle
et Véritable (Apocalypse 19:11).
« Et l'Eternel dit à Moïse: Jusqu'à quand ce
peuple me méprisera-t-il? Jusqu'à quand ne croira-t-il pas en moi, malgré tous
les prodiges que j'ai faits au milieu de lui? Je le frapperai par la peste, et
je le détruirai; mais je ferai de toi une nation plus grande et plus puissante
que lui. » (Nombres 14:11-12)
« ...quand j'enverrai la peste parmi mon peuple; si
mon peuple sur qui est invoqué mon nom s'humilie, prie, et cherche ma face, et
s'il se détourne de ses mauvaises voies, -je l'exaucerai des cieux, je lui
pardonnerai son péché, et je guérirai son pays. » (2 Chroniques
7:13-14)
Garde-toi de
mettre ta confiance en la statistique ou en la foule. Mets plutôt ta confiance
en Jésus-Christ. Il est plus fort et plus fiable que la statistique et la foule
réunies, qui peuvent toutes les deux te décevoir. Car, ce que Jésus-Christ te
réserve, ce sont « des choses que l'œil
n'a point vues, que l'oreille n'a point entendues, et qui ne sont point montées
au cœur de l'homme, des choses que Dieu a préparées pour ceux qui l'aiment. »
(1 Corinthiens 2:9)
STATISTICS AND CROWDS
God and His Word are not against numbers. For proof, one of
the canonical books of the Bible is called Numbers.
On the other hand, God abhors proud statistics. Statistics that represent the
superiority, the arrogant power of man. Since you therefore love statistics, I
will send you a plague so that you will abhor it by counting your victims and
your corpses.
King David had the bitter experience of it. “1 Now Satan stood up against Israel, and
moved David to number Israel… 7 And God was
displeased with this thing; therefore He struck Israel. 8 So
David said to God, “I have sinned greatly, because I have done this
thing; but now, I pray, take away the iniquity of Your servant, for I have
done very foolishly.”… 14 So the Lord sent
a plague upon Israel, and seventy thousand men of Israel fell.” (1
Chronicles 21:1, 7-8, 14 NKJV)
The celebrities, the rich and powerful of this world love to
crowd bathe to express their power and arrogant influence. The Lord puts a halt
to this demonstration of influence and power, by sending them something
invisible and indescribable that erases their visibility and reduces to nothing
their power of seduction. What is needed is not a crowd bath, but a bath of the
Spirit, an immersion in the Holy Spirit, or as the Bible says, a baptism in the
Holy Spirit. “I indeed baptize you with
water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose
sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy
Spirit and fire.” (Matthew 3:11 NKJV)
Do not seek your identity and worth in the number of people
who follow you, flatter you or approve of you, for their opinion is changing
according to circumstances, but in Him who is called Faithful and True
(Revelation 19:11).
“11 Then the Lord said to Moses: “How
long will these people reject Me? And how long will they
not believe Me, with all the signs which I have performed among them? 12 I
will strike them with the pestilence and disinherit them, and I will make
of you a nation greater and mightier than they.” (Numbers 14:11-12 NKJV)
“When I… send
pestilence among My people, if My people who
are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My
face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and
will forgive their sin and heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:13-14 NKJV)
Don't put your trust in statistics or in the crowd. Put your
trust in Jesus Christ instead. He is stronger and more reliable than statistics
and crowds combined, both of which can disappoint you. For what Jesus Christ
has in store for you are things which “Eye
has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things
which God has prepared for those who love Him.” (1 Corinthians 2:9 NKJV)
